# Slack and Element notifications

Userreact can announce every new report in a Slack channel or an Element (Matrix) room as it arrives. It posts one message per report and never reads your conversations. Replies in the message's thread are not sent back to Userreact.

Only confirmed reports are announced: a report from an unsigned visitor is announced once they confirm their email.

Setting up notifications requires the **owner** or **admin** role.

## Slack

1. Open **Sites**, click the site, and in the **Slack** card click **Set it up**.
2. Click **Connect Slack** and install the Userreact app on your workspace. Slack Enterprise Grid installations are not supported; install it on a single workspace.
3. Choose a **Channel** and click **Save**.
   - Public channel: Userreact joins it the first time it posts.
   - Private channel: invite the Userreact app to the channel first.

## Element (Matrix)

Userreact posts through a bot account on your own homeserver.

1. Create a bot account on your homeserver and sign in to Element as that bot.
2. Copy its access token from **Settings → Help & About → Access Token**.
3. Open **Sites**, click the site, and in the **Element** card click **Set it up**.
4. Enter your **Homeserver** (for example `matrix.acme.test`) and the **Access token**, then click **Connect Element**.
5. Invite the bot to a room. It never joins a room by itself.
6. Choose the **Room** and click **Save**.

Messages arrive as plain text in an encrypted room. Homeservers on private or local network addresses are refused.

## What the message contains

The report's title (or first line), its text (up to 2800 characters), the page, the number of screenshots, and a link to the report. By default the reporter appears as an anonymous id. You can switch on **Include the reporter's name and email in the message**, only for a private channel or room.

## Stopping and changing

Use **Change channel** / **Change room** on the site page, or **Stop announcing** on the integrations page.

## "Announcements are waiting to be sent"

If the integrations page shows an amber notice that announcements are waiting to be sent, announcements have been queued for more than a few minutes without going out. If it does not clear, contact support (open **Help** in the top bar and click **Talk to a person**): it is a problem on our side. On a report page, the **Announced in** card shows "Waiting to be announced" or "Could not be announced in …" with the reason.
